![]() ![]() The Royal Opera was the largest concert hall in Europe during the 18 th century. It was built for multiple purposes so as to cut the cost of temporary specially constructed pop-ups. The opera was commissioned by Louis XV and is one of the greatest architectural accomplishments of Ange-Jacques Gabriel. It can accommodate a capacity of over 700 as a theatre and 1,200 as a ballroom. The theatre began construction in 1765 and was completed five years later in 1770.
